From our current database counts (for 431 U.S. museums and other arts and cultural institutions):
- The number of exhibitions that closed in December was more than double the number that opened.
- The most popular opening day was Saturday, December 16th.
- The most popular closing day was Sunday, December 31st.
- Almost 1,600 exhibitions were on view in December.
- Slightly more exhibitions opened in December 2023 than in December 2022.
- There were slightly more exhibitions on view during December 2023 than in December 2022 (around 3% more).
This month marks the one-year anniversary of the launch of EXH.CAT, the color-coded database of exhibitions!
November 2023
From our current database counts (for 430 U.S. museums and other arts and cultural institutions):
- Around 30% more exhibitions opened than closed in November 2023
- Most popular opening day: Saturday, November 18th
- Most popular closing days: Sunday, November 5th and Sunday, November 26th
- More than 1,550 exhibitions were on view in November
- Slightly more exhibitions were on view in November 2023 than in November 2022 (around 3% more)

October 2023

- More exhibitions opened than closed in October.
- The most popular opening day was Saturday, October 7th.
- The most popular closing day was Sunday, October 22nd.
- There were about as many exhibitions on view in October as there were in September.
- More exhibitions opened in October 2022 than in October 2023.
- There were slightly more exhibitions on view during October 2023 than in October 2022 (ca. 3% more).

- The most popular opening day was Sunday, April 1st (36 exhibitions)
- The most popular closing day was Sunday, April 2nd (61 exhibitions)
- Fewer exhibitions opened in the month of April than in January, February, or March 2023
